Design Philosophy
Each project, whether large or small, can be worth more than the sum of the parts used to construct it. TASK design, inc. collaborates with the Client during the design process so that each project reflects the uniqueness of their aesthetic taste, functional needs, budget and surrounding environment. TASK design also strives to help the Client make each project more sustainable, with a timeless quality. The unique opportunities afforded by each client can also inspire site specific art and furnishings.
Sustainability
Sustainable, green or eco-friendly building are common phrases that essentially mean producing an environment that increases efficiency, comfort and durability while reducing utility costs, maintenance, pollution and waste. This approach is not necessarily a new way of building, but a return to the principals that guided architecture before a dependence on fossil fuels. Buildings often adapted to the surrounding environment by utilizing elements such as shading devices, cross ventilation, indirect daylighting, water collection and use of local, renewable and durable materials. These time-proven techniques can be integrated with newer technologies to enhance comfort, convenience, durability and efficiency for today’s Client. Sustainable building is not necessarily more expensive: in fact, there are many sustainable features that add no additional cost. Even though some energy-efficient systems do require more upfront cost, they often pay for themselves by decreasing utility bills. TASK design has participated in several environmentally sensitive building-related organizations, including Austin Energy Green Building Program. We are also a member of several sustainable-minded organizations.
Firm Principal
Kenneth Fitzsimmons formed TASK design in 2004 out of a desire to work more closely with clients to design more meaningful and sustainable architecture. Prior to this, he worked for various architecture firms in Dallas and Austin, Texas. He returned to his hometown of Oklahoma City in 2006 to be a part of the exciting ongoing urban revitalization. He has nearly 20 years of experience on a wide variety of projects. The firm is intentionally a small practice to allow for a more hands-on approach with each project. Kenneth graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and is a licensed Architect and Interior Designer in Texas and Oklahoma. He is a member of AIA, serves on the Boards of Sustainable OKC and Individual Artists of Oklahoma (IAO).
